Business Plan
The Long Island Regional Planning Council will work pursuant to its Mission Statement
to position itself to undertake its mandate to identify, investigate and propose
immediate and long term implemental solutions for problems of regional concern.
The LIRPC will conduct regional policy research and education and prepare reports
on the most pressing issues facing Long Island, with the specific goal of presenting
policy recommendations for the region’s business, civic, academic, not-for profit
and government leaders. To do this, the LIRPC will continue to work cooperatively
with federal, state, local and interstate governments, agencies and authorities,
along with private stakeholders and the public at large.
The LIRPC will draw on the best information and practices from around the region
and collaborate with local municipalities, academic institutions, organizations
and stakeholders on a range of issues, including housing, transportation, energy,
social, economic and racial equity, open space/natural resource preservation, water
resources, solid waste management, coastal zone management, agriculture, government
efficiency, economic development, the environment and overall quality of life. The
LIRPC will promote regional identity that fosters public dialogue and greater cooperation
between and among jurisdictions.
